With a deep passion for racing, Jitu Singh joined the Wexford Team four years ago and has no plans on going anywhere soon! His love for racing developed from a young age and has seen him travel to various parts of the world to work within in the industry and grow his knowledge.
The love he has for his job is exemplified through his excellent work ethic and reliability and we feel very lucky to have him as part of the crew.
We spoke to Jitu to find out more about him and the horses he has a bit of a soft spot for...
How did you first get involved in racing?
I always loved racing from when I was young. I grew up in Rajasthan in India and with both my brothers working in racing, I followed their lead and began my first racing job in Bangalore. After working there for 3 years, I then moved to Dubai where I rode trackwork for 6 years. I worked at Godolphin in the UK for six months before moving to New Zealand and starting at Wexford Stables.
What is your current role at Wexford?
Ground Staff.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love racing and enjoy the hard work that goes with it. Of course, the horses are great and I especially like working with the yearlings.
And least?
I love my job always!
What has been your proudest racing moment with Wexford?
Probably Dark Destroyer when he won the Avondale Guineas.
Do you have a soft spot for one horse in particular?
I have two horses that are my main favorites. Dark Destroyer is a very good horse and I love working with him. I also really like Ozark. I work with him everyday and it was so good to see him win at Matamata.
One horse in the barn people should keep an eye on over the next few months?
I think the Almanzor - Sussex Dancer gelding is a really nice horse.
What is your favorite thing about Wexford?
The staff are all like family to me and we all work together. Lance and Scotty are also great to work for.
