Wexford purchases to the fore in Hong Kong treble
30 Jan 2014A couple of horses who were bought as yearlings by Wexford Stables and started their careers at our Matamata property were part of a treble of wins for Paul O’Sullivan at Sha Tin last weekend.
Paul started the ball rolling when Sunny Pearl (by Strada) won over 1400 metres in the fourth race on the card, then four events later Santa Fe Sun (by Haradasun) chimed in with a win over the same trip.
However, the best was saved for last and it was Aerovelocity (by Pins) who continued on his winning way with victory over 1200 metres in the hands of Zac Purton.
Aerovelocity was bought by Paul from the 2010 Premier Yearling Sale and began his career in New Zealand under the name of Naisoso Warrior and showed ability from the outset.
He was given four trials for three placings then a win and headed to Hong Kong after winning well on debut at Awapuni on Anzac Day 2012.
He has continued to improve as he has strengthened and he completed a hat trick of wins with his performance last Sunday.
“He’s a Group horse in the making and wouldn’t be out of place in the Railway Handicap back home here,” said Paul during his busy schedule at the National Yearling Sales.
Sunny Pearl is the other winner who came through the Wexford Stables’ preparation after being bought by us for $60,000 from the 2010 Festival Yearling Sales. He has inherited some of the ability shown by his dam, Snapwood, who won a couple of races over 1000m for Wanganui trainer Wayne Marshment
